Monuments Men

Monuments Men, a film full of culture, history and sadness. Based in World War II, this film watches 7 men take on a mission to return historic artefacts back to their rightful places. These artefacts were stolen by Nazi thieves and hidden. The German army were under strict orders to destroy all these masterpieces if Germany fell.

George Clooney produced and directed this true story, he created a film that portrayed the essence and passion of art in each countries eyes. He proved just how much effort and sacrifice these men went through to retrieve the world’s most precious and meaningful pieces.

Even though the seriousness of this story was brought out, the writing from George Clooney and Grant Heslov created a humorous and positive relationship between the men involved. This helped through the particular casting, with  Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and Cate Blanchett.

Some might argue that the humorous quality defects the serious notion of this film, however it does not lack in the Monuments Men bravery and team work to bring back rightful, artistic pieces, to their owners.
